Compliance Score

Your compliance score helps you understand your VAT compliance health at a glance.

A factual health indicator - not an attestation

The compliance score is a factual status indicator of how your data and filing history look against the platform's checks. It is not an attestation that your returns are correct, and it is not a guarantee against assessment or penalty. Treat it as a prompt to review, not a sign-off.

Score Grades

GradeScore RangeStatus
A90-100Excellent
B80-89Good
C70-79Satisfactory
D60-69Needs Improvement
FBelow 60Critical

The letter is applied to your rounded score, so the number you see and the grade beside it always agree.

Not Yet Assessed

A score renders only after a real assessment exists. Until your business clears the activity floor - at least 30 processed transactions AND either a lodged filing on record or 90 days of activity, with a known VAT-registration status - the dashboard and reports show Not Yet Assessed instead of a number. A brand-new or sparsely-populated business is never shown a fabricated grade; the Not Yet Assessed card explains what is missing and links to the next step (importing transactions or completing a filing).

Scoring Factors

Your score is calculated from four weighted domains:

Filing Compliance (30%)

  • Returns lodged within the applicable deadline (21 days standard; 14 days for large taxpayers)
  • A generated-but-unfiled draft does not count as a filing - only an actual lodgement does
  • When a period carries no filing obligation for your business (for example, before your VAT registration), this domain is marked out of scope and the other three domains re-weight proportionally - you are never scored down for an obligation you did not have

Data Quality (25%)

  • Required fields present on every transaction (date, description, amounts, category)
  • No unprocessed gaps in the period

Rate Accuracy (25%)

  • Correct VAT rate applied to each transaction for its category and date

Documentation (20%)

  • Invoice references present on transactions

When the score is capped

If you have an overdue, unfiled return for a period that is in scope, your overall score is capped into the failing band regardless of how strong the other domains are - an outstanding statutory obligation is the dominant risk. The cap lifts when the return is filed, and the dashboard explains the cap so it is never silent.

Transactions pending review

Transactions still awaiting review are excluded from the score until they are promoted (VAT-category confirmed and audit-gated). Rather than silently ignoring them, the dashboard surfaces the pending-review count with a link to the review queue, so an empty or provisional period is never presented as "all clear".

Improving Your Score

Quick Wins

  • Review and confirm pending categorizations
  • Resolve any open alerts

Long-Term Improvements

  • Import transactions more frequently
  • Establish consistent categorization rules
  • Address root causes of anomalies

The dashboard shows your score trend over time:

  • Improving - Score trending upward
  • Stable - Consistent score maintained
  • Declining - Score trending downward (action needed)
